The project team, led by CIAC researchers Bruno Mendes da Silva and Ana Filipa Martins, is made up of members with extensive experience in the fields of education, media studies and media literacy and the creation and production of interactive films, video games and pedagogical itineraries based on gamification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bruno Mendes da Silva holds a post-doctorate in Communication, Culture, and Arts from the University of Algarve (UAlg), a Ph.D. in Literature and Cinema\/Comparative Literature\/Literature from UAlg, a post-graduate degree in Arts Management from the Institute of European Studies of Macau (IEEM), and a bachelor’s degree in Film and Video from the Porto School of Arts (ESAP).<\/p>\n

Bruno Mendes da Silva serves as Vice-coordinator of the Research Center for Arts and Communication and Director of the Department of Communication at the School of Education and Communication (ESEC) of the University of Algarve (UAlg). He is also a Guest Professor at the Saint Joseph University of Macau. Previously, he worked as a director and producer at Teledifus\u00e3o de Macau (TDM). Additionally, he has been invited to participate in international festivals of video, digital media art, and cinema, such as FRESH (Thailand), Thinking Media (South Korea), Dokanema (Mozambique), Loop (Spain), Festival de La Imagen and Ecologias Digitales (Colombia), The Script Road (China), and FILE (Brazil).<\/p>\n

Bruno Mendes da Silva has participated in twenty-two (22) scientific projects (as either principal investigator or research member) and is the author of several books, book chapters, and other scientific publications (approximately 90). He has been a guest lecturer in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Tunisia, Mozambique, Brazil, Colombia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, South Korea, and China. He has supervised seven (7) doctoral theses. Additionally, he serves as Director of Rotura – Journal of Communication, Culture, and Arts.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Alexandre Martins is a PhD student in Digital Media Art (UAlg\/UAb), holding a master’s degree in Heritage, Arts, and Cultural Tourism (ESE-IPP 2020) and a bachelor’s degree in Foreign Languages and Cultures (ESE-IPP 2018). He is a researcher at the Research Center for Arts and Communication (CIAC), where he conducts studies in Digital Arts and Audiovisual Communication.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ant\u00f3nio Costa Valente<\/h6><\/div>

Ant\u00f3nio Costa Valente holds a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Technologies from the University of Aveiro. He has served as a visiting professor at public universities in Aveiro and Vila Real and as the director of the Department of Theater and Cinema at ESAP \u2013 Escola Superior Art\u00edstica do Porto.<\/p>\n

He has been directing the AVANCA Film Festival since 1997 and the AVANCA|CINEMA scientific conference since 2010. Additionally, he coordinates the “Eng.\u00ba Fernando Gon\u00e7alves Lavrador” Award, which is annually bestowed upon the best academic research on cinema. He serves as the European coordinator for the International Federation of Film Societies and the national coordinator for INPUT-TV, an international conference that brings together public television stations from around the world. He is also a co-editor of the “International Journal of Cinema.”<\/p>\n

He has produced and directed films that have been awarded more than three hundred prizes at festivals on all continents. Among them, he produced and co-directed the first feature-length Portuguese animated film. He is the author of several books, book chapters, and other scientific publications. He has supervised numerous completed doctoral and master’s theses. Additionally, he serves as a reviewer for various national and international scientific conferences and journals.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Carolina de Sousa<\/h6><\/div>

Currently, she is an integrated researcher at the Center for Education and Psychology of the University of \u00c9vora – CIEP, retired coordinating professor at the University of Algarve (UAlg), and lecturer\/guest lecturer at the School of Education and Communication (ESEC) of UAlg.<\/p>

Carolina M. Silva F. Sousa holds a Ph.D. in Education, specializing in Educational Psychology, from the University of Minho, Portugal, with a doctoral internship in Paris at the Laboratory of Differential Psychology of the University Ren\u00e9 Descartes (Paris V) \u2013 Sorbonne. She also holds a Master’s degree in Educational Sciences, specializing in Activation of Psychological Development, from the University of Aveiro, and a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Porto.<\/p>

As a guest lecturer at the University of Huelva, she collaborates with universities in the Andalusia region, Brazil, etc., participating in doctoral juries and hosting doctoral students and graduates under her supervision to further explore the topic of education for resilience. She was the proposer (2004) and scientific coordinator, as well as a professor, of the international doctoral program in Multicultural Education at the University of Huelva, Spain.<\/p>

She is the scientific coordinator of the Portuguese team at UAlg for the international project “Resilience in Higher Education: Overcoming Adversities.” The overall objective of the project is to analyze, design, and evaluate an Intervention Program within the educational context of Higher Education. This program aims to develop resilience constructs based on competencies in education, health (including physical expression, mindfulness, yoga, music, physical education, and sports), digital world and communication, creativity, arts, and culture. These competencies are intended to foster resilient behavior patterns.<\/p>

Carolina Sousa served as the coordinator in Portugal for the Section of Educational Psychology of the Portuguese Society for Educational Sciences (SPCE). She was responsible for proposing the creation of statutes for students with special educational needs at the University of Algarve, which was approved by the university’s senate.<\/p>

As the Erasmus Coordinator from 1993\/1994 to 2012, Carolina Sousa contributed to the mobility of faculty and students at the University of Algarve, as well as participated in the renewal of practices and improvement of the exchange of experiences.<\/p>

Mirian Nogueira Tavares holds a Ph.D. in Communication and Contemporary Culture from the Federal University of Bahia.<\/p>\n

She is the coordinator of the Research Center for Arts and Communication (CIAC) and an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Algarve (UAlg). Additionally, she serves as the Director of the Ph.D. program in Digital Media Art, taught in partnership between the University of Algarve and Universidade Aberta.<\/p>\n

On the international level, she holds the vice presidency of the International Association of Computational Art – ARTECH-Int, which she coordinates with other prominent national roles.<\/p>\n

She is a member of the curatorial team of the Portuguese Network of Contemporary Art and Director of Rotura – Journal of Communication, Culture, and Arts.<\/p>\nShe has been involved in over 25 scientific projects, often serving as general coordinator and\/or institutional coordinator in many of them.<\/p>\n

She has participated, by invitation, in over 100 national and international conferences, with more than 60 articles published in nationally and internationally recognized journals.<\/p>\n

As a result of her intense scientific activity, she has authored 17 books and contributed to 56 chapters in highly recognized works in her field of study.<\/p>\n

In total, over 50 master’s, doctoral, and post-doctoral students have defended their titles under her supervision.<\/p>\n

Mirian Tavares also regularly contributes to various cultural magazines and the production of artistic texts and catalogs. She has coordinated and conceptually developed a set of original web series aimed at science dissemination (CIAC Talks and CIAC Talks Initiative).<\/p>\n

Susana Costa is a Ph.D. candidate in digital media art at the University of Algarve (UAlg) and Univerdade Aberta (UAb), and a collaborator at the Research Center for Arts and Communication (CIAC), where she has been involved in several national and international projects.<\/p>\n

She is the editor of Rotura – Journal of Communication, Culture, and Arts, and the Humanitas Collection, and collaborates as a reviewer for the CIAC Editions. She has also published in several peer-reviewed journals and presented scientific papers at national and international conferences.<\/p>\n

As a researcher, her research interests lie in education, arts, and technology. Since 2004, she has collaborated with various research centers, including the Center for Computer Graphics (CCG) and the Research Center for Arts and Communication (CIAC), where she has participated in several international projects. Her previous experiences include the Chimera Project – Cultural and Creative Industries; the Erasmus+ project 4CDE, Code, Content Creation, and Culture for Digital Education; Play Your Role: gamification against hate speech; CYPET: Development of a new Pedagogical Model for Cyberperformance Teaching in Higher Education.<\/p>\n

Her doctoral research focuses on studying the manifestations and consequences of hate speech in games and online communities of young people and adolescents, proposing game-based and gamification approaches to contain this issue.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

He is currently a professor at this university, where he regularly teaches courses in digital narratives, multimedia, and e-learning. Additionally, he serves as the coordinator of the Section of Informatics, Physics, and Technology (SIFT) and is a member of the Coordinating Council of the Department of Sciences and Technology (DCeT) at Universidade Aberta. He is also a member of the Coordinating Committee of the Ph.D. program in Digital Media Art (DMAD), a partnership between Universidade Aberta and University of Algarve.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\nFrancisco Merino was born in Viseu. He received a PhD in Communication Sciences from the University of Beira Interior in 2015. His research subjects include New Cinema, Expanded Cinema, Television and Digital Narratives. He teaches at the University of Beira Interior since 2006 and was the coordinator of the Undergraduate Film Degree from 2016 to 2020. He also teaches courses in Journalism, Multimedia and Design and Development of Digital Games master\u2019s degrees. He is the head of the UBI\u2019s Center of Resources. \nLu\u00eds Nogueira is an associate professor in the Department of Arts at the University of Beira Interior, where he served as president from 2019 to 2021. He was also the director of the undergraduate program in Cinema from 2008 to 2015. He teaches or has taught courses such as Film Genres, Screenwriting Lab, Editing, Film History, Animation, and Film and Other Arts.

\n

His interests also include exploring the relationship between cinema and other arts and media, such as literature, painting, theater, photography, comics, music videos, or new digital media, as well as phenomena of intertextuality, intermediality, and transmediality.

Gabriel Evangelista<\/h6><\/div>

Gabriel Evangelista is a higher education professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (IPL), where he teaches and coordinates several courses focused on game production, including concept art, 2D art for games, and illustration. He is also a member of the Scientific-Pedagogical Council of the Games and Multimedia Bachelor’s Degree, and he takes pride in guiding students at this institution, which has produced several award-winning games over the years. In his teaching career in the field of video games, he has also collaborated with other institutions such as IADE, Etic, the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar, and Restart.

\n

He is a member of the Board of Specialists at Digital Valley, holding a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Design from ESAD (IPL), a Specialist Title in Audio-Visuals and Media Production (CNAEF 213), and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Media Art Digital at the University of Algarve (UAlg) and Universidade Aberta (UAb).

\n

Starting his career as a designer and illustrator in 2002 and focusing on the video game industry since 2006, Gabriel has worked with various national and international studios, including Biodroid, Yucca Studios, ZPX, Volt Games, Cabbageman, Glamour Games, Evorlor, among others. His activity has focused on leading art teams, creating visual concepts, and producing 2D art for video games. He has also embraced roles as a producer and game designer in several projects for platforms such as Nintendo, PlayStation, Microsoft, iOS, Android, Facebook, and the Web.

\n

Gabriel is also passionate about other forms of art, maintaining a parallel activity as an illustrator and comic book artist. Since 2005, he has been published in various Portuguese editions (such as S\u00e1bado magazine, Kingpin Books, Pushstart, Sketchbook, Qual Albatroz, among others) and international editions (Bluewater Productions and Dark Horse). He has also curated exhibitions and been a guest author at various festivals, such as Amadora BD, Beja BD Festival, Anicomics, and Moura BD.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\nJo\u00e3o Paulo de Carvalho dos Reis e Cunha holds a degree in Cinema from FAAP (Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Armando \u00c1lvares Penteado – S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil, 2002) and in Advertising and Marketing from UNISO (Universidade de Sorocaba – S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil, 2005). He holds a postgraduate degree in Graphic Design from SENAC Campinas (S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil, 2017). He completed his Master’s degree in 2021 and is currently a PhD candidate in the Communication and Culture Postgraduate Program at UNISO, with part of his research conducted at CIAC – Research Center for Arts and Communication at the University of Algarve (Faro, Portugal), with a scholarship from CAPES. In the field of Analysis of Media Processes and Products, he studies cinematographic and audiovisual language in the context of digital technology. He is currently a research fellow at CIAC, where he works in audiovisual production. With over 20 years of experience in the market as a video editor and motion designer, he has also completed various continuing education courses, both in animation, motion graphics, and composition in After Effects, as well as in modeling and animation in 3ds Max and color grading in DaVinci Resolve.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

JuanMo Gim\u00e9nez<\/h6><\/div>

JuanMo Gim\u00e9nez is a Doctor in Philosophy and Language Sciences from UAM and has a master’s degree in Contemporary Philosophy Research from UGR. His research focuses on philosophical practices in childhood such as the Philosophy for Children program and the IPP by \u00d3scar Brenifier, as well as being a member of the Philosophy for Children association in Andalusia, a board member of the cultural association Philosophy on the Street, and creator of the Little Philosophers workshops. In this line, he has developed the Cinesophy manual in the classroom, combining practical philosophy, pedagogy, and cinema. In his daily life, he is a psychopedagogue and primary school teacher experimenting with philosophy in various contexts: social exclusion, minors in judicial measures, teacher training, etc. He has been a radio announcer, storyteller, visual poet, and, among other works, he is the author of the essay “The Competence of Teaching Thinking” and the novel “The Angel of Good Nights: A Philosophical Tale for Adults.” He has given talks on Nietzsche and Heidegger in cinema, explored the theme of technology and artificial intelligence in the work “Overcoming Technological Adolescence,” and has developed a new methodology called “Gamersophy for Children” to teach thinking using video games.\n<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Anthony Brooks (Aalborg University)<\/h6><\/div>

Anthony Brooks is an Associate Professor at Aalborg University in Denmark, where he is the director\/founder of the ‘SensoramaLab’ (Laboratory of Virtual Reality, Human-Computer Interaction, and Game-Based Learning). Brooks also serves as a lecturer, supervisor, and coordinator in the field of ‘Art and Technology’ education. He has been actively involved with the European Commission as a project evaluator.

\n

Anthony Brooks has published approximately 200 articles, with his research being responsible for international, European, and national projects that he has led. His research has also led to national and international projects, a startup in the serious games industry, and a series of patents resulting from his method and advanced prototypes, such as US6893407 “Method and Apparatus for Communication.”

\n

He is recognized as a global pioneer in digital media and its use with communities of people with disabilities, where creative artistic expression acts as a catalyst for new opportunities in practice. His artistic work has been showcased at major global events, including two Olympic\/Paralympic Games (Atlanta 1996; Sydney 2000), numerous exhibitions in European Cultural Capitals, and events such as the Danish NeWave in New York in 1999. His interactive art installations have been displayed in numerous Museums of Modern Art (MoMAs).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Janice Richardson (Digital Citizenship Expert, Council of Europe)<\/h6><\/div>

\nJanice Richardson is a founding member\/coordinator of the Safer Internet network of the European Commission in 30 countries (Insafe) and the ENABLI network. Since 2002, Richardson has co-authored over half a dozen publications for the Council of Europe (CoE) on topics such as digital citizenship and child protection. She is a member of the Facebook Advisory Safety Council and the Youth Advisory Board, as well as the steering committee of the Power of Zero on early childhood education. Janice was also part of the Trust and Safety Council at X (formerly Twitter). Additionally, she is the founder of Insight S.A. and Safer Internet Day – celebrated in over 140 countries.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He is also a Network Administration Technician, a Digital Prepress and Electronic Publications Technician, and holds professional qualifications from institutions such as the Linux Foundation, the Interactive Advertising Bureau, and Google Spain. He has been involved in projects such as the Arias Montano Institutional Repository for the University Library of Huelva, the website of the Consortium of University Libraries of Andalusia, and various portals with annual reports for the Ombudsman of Andalusia.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
